Before the pandemic caused lockdown, I was invited to participate in an exhibition at the Alberta Craft Council to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this institution. The pandemic postponed the exhibition until next year but in the meantime, I have made my piece in response to some of the objects I viewed at the Royal Alberta Museum. The objects that inspired me were the buttons displayed in the drawers, separated by marks on a piece of foam, as well as the indigenous artifacts the museum has in its collection. I used an old shirt as the substrate for my Lino printed and stitched images. The buttons are from my personal collection acquired from my grandmother and others. The beads and stitching, although not reminiscent of Indigenous beadwork or embroidery, is a tip of the hat to those beautiful artifacts.
